Get Winter Road Ready. Part 2

Is your truck winter ready?

Winter roads and harsh weather conditions put extra stress on both: the truck and the driver. The better the truck is prepared for winter the less the risk of breaking down, malfunctions, and accidents.

Preparing for colder weather takes time. It is better not to leave it to the last moment when the cold temperatures set in. We have prepared a quick checklist for you to have handy.

Winter weather-ready checklist.

As you inspect your truck every time before the trip focus your attention on these areas:

  1. Check the tire tread depth. While driving with worn-out tires is never safe – in winter it is lifesaving.
  2. Check tire pressure. With temperature changes – changes air pressure.
  3. Use winter diesel. Make sure you have at least 50% of your tanks filled up with winter diesel especially on your return to Canada and before weekends
  4. Check the signals – with longer darker hours and reduced visibility, there is just no room for failure.
  5. Make sure the wiper blades are winter-ready, you will be using them often.
  6. Go over your winter survival kit:
    •  first aid supplies
    • Shovel, brush and traction mat, sand or kitty litter
    • Fuel line antifreeze
    • Flares,  matches,  lighter
    • Tire chains and gloves
    • Flashlight and extra batteries
    • Battery jumper cables
    • Winter, clothing, extra socks  waterproof footwear
  7. Make sure the electrical and exhaust systems are functioning, there is no visibly loose wires and connections.
  8. Make sure oil and other fluids are topped up.
  9. Always have an extra 2 gallons of windshield washer fluid

Once the bad weather sets in, do not skip on regular checkups, no matter how uncomfortable it is outside. Making sure you are road ready before every trip is the key to road safety.
